A detention officer with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office was arrested Sunday at Walmart and charged with two counts of shoplifting, according to TCSO Sgt. Stewart Smith.

Smith said the detention officer tendered her resignation Monday morning to Sheriff James Woodruff in lieu of termination.

The officer was employed at the Sheriff’s Office since Sept. 2014, Smith said.

DUI

A minor head-on collision on Cannon Street just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday ended with one man behind bars.

LaGrange police responded to the accident and noticed one of the cars, a Toyota Avalon, was in the middle of the road in the opposite lane of travel. After officers determined no one was injured in the wreck, they spoke to each of the drivers.

One officer noticed the driver of the Toyota had bloodshot eyes and acted confused. The officer also said he could smell alcohol in the vehicle.

Police stated they shined a flashlight inside the car and noticed a cup and a bottle of beer.

Officers conducted a field sobriety test on the driver, which he failed, according to the police report.

The driver was arrested and taken to the Troup County Jail where he was given a Breathalyzer test.

Police said his blood alcohol content measured at .235.

He was charged with DUI, DUI less safe, failure to maintain lane and open container violation.
