LaGRANGE — Investigators with the LaGrange Police Department announced Friday they arrested a man who allegedly fired several gunshots at two teens in Calumet Park.

LPD investigators said Joseph Lee Williams, 30, of LaGrange, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault.

They believe Williams is the man caught on surveillance tape walking up to two teens, a male and a female, as they were talking on a bench in Calumet Park near the splash pad at 99 Union St. just before noon on Feb. 16. The man in the video took out a gun and fired at them before running toward Ware Street.

The teens were not hurt.

They told officers at the scene the gunman started arguing with them, then suddenly started shooting. They did not identify Williams by name but described what he was wearing.

Investigators were able to pull up park surveillance cameras and caught the incident on video.

The video is posted on the LaGrange Police Department and Daily News Facebook pages.

Williams was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm. As of Friday afternoon, he was in the Troup County Jail.
