LaGRANGE — The Georgia State Patrol confirmed this morning two people died in a head-on collision in the southbound lanes of Interstate 85 near the I-185 connector.

The wreck happened just after 11:30 a.m. Thursday as a couple was driving northbound.

The driver of that car was attempting to pass an RV camper in the left lane when he clipped the edge of the vehicle, according to GSP officials.

The collision sent the car across the grassy median and into the southbound lanes of I-85, where the couple’s vehicle was hit by a vehicle traveling toward LaGrange, troopers stated.

The passenger, identified only as a female, was killed instantly.

The male driver was being airlifted to a hospital in Atlanta when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest, GSP stated. The flight team diverted to a hospital in Newnan, but the victim later died.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, no one was hurt in the RV or in the vehicle traveling in the southbound lanes of Interstate 85.
