LAGRANGE – LaGrange High’s golf team opened the season with a 171-179 victory over Carrollton at Highland Country Club on Thursday.

For a team with a number of new members in the lineup, LaGrange coach Thomas Crocker felt it was an encouraging result.

“I was very, very pleased. Our kids did good,” Crocker said. “We needed to win to get some confidence and some excitement.”

Crocker said it helped that the match was played on LaGrange’s home course.

“The country club is not an easy course,” Crocker said. “When you play all the time there, it gives you an advantage, so it helps us a lot.”

One of LaGrange’s veteran golfers, Preston Pelham, came through with a 38 to lead the team

Hudson Graham and Jacob Norred each shot a 44, and TJ Ormsby carded a 45 to round out the scoring for the Grangers.

LaGrange’s other players were John Crawford (48) and Grant Smith (50).

The top four scores counted toward the team total.

For the LaGrange girls’ team, Blakeley Arp shot a 48, and Claire Alford was still on the course when it became too dark to continue.
