A routine walk through of the Tall Pines Apartment complex Saturday night at 150 Turner St. landed one teen in the youth detention center after investigators found him with a loaded handgun.

According to the LaGrange Police Department, investigators with the Special Investigation Unit spoke with several people in the breezeway of building A just after 8 p.m.

The report stated an officer discovered one of the juveniles was banned from the apartment complex.

Investigators took the 14 year old into custody, searched him and found a loaded .45 caliber handgun hidden in his groin area, according to the police report.

The juvenile was charged with possession of a handgun while under 18, carrying a concealed weapon and criminal trespass.

Fence damaged at Arby’s

The manager of the Arby’s restaurant at 115 New Franklin Road called LaGrange police Friday about 11:40 a.m. after discovering someone damaged the rear fence behind the building.

The manager told police he thought a drunk driver hit it some time between closing the restaurant Thursday night and opening at 8 a.m. Friday.

The damage to the fence was estimated at about $1,800.

Shoplifters

Managers at the Home Depot off Lafayette Parkway and the LaGrange Police Department are trying to catch a pair of “tag swapping” thieves.

One of the managers showed LPD officers a tape of the couple on Feb. 18 as they select a Dewalt drill kit valued at $349. According to the report, the man is then seen swapping tags to disguise the drill kit as being valued at $44.25.

A few more items are selected then the woman, is seen paying or the items at the self-checkout while the male distracts an associate nearby. This incident was captured on surveillance video.

The manager believes this couple has done the same thing at Home Depot in Opelika, Alabama.

Police are investigating.
