LaGRANGE — The LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce will host its second Candidate Academy on March 14 for those candidates who have qualified to run for political office.

The first Candidate Academy held in June focused on the realities of running for and serving in public office. This year’s academy will focus more on the strategies needed to run a successful campaign, including how to properly sculpt a campaign image through social media and press, and ethics and reporting requirements, states a chamber press release.

The Candidate Academy is 6 p.m. at the chamber, 111 Bull St. The program is nonpartisan and free of charge. It is open to anyone running for office, members of their campaign committees and those who are considering running for office in the future.

Those serving on the panel include political consultant Jay Walker; LaGrange Mayor Jim Thornton; Colin Martin, field representative for U. S. Congressman Lynn Westmoreland; and LaGrange City Council member Norma Tucker.

Several seats will be on the ballot this election year, including clerk of superior court; sheriff; tax commissioner; coroner; solicitor; county commission seats in districts 2, 3 and 4; state court judge; probate judge and board of education seats in districts 2, 3, 5 and 6.

The primary election for local partisan races is set for May 24 and the general election is Nov. 8. To register for the Candidate Academy, contact Renae Willis at the Chamber, 706-884-8671 or renae@lagrangechamber.com.
