HOGANSVILLE – By this point of the season, the Callaway High soccer teams expected to each have four region games under their belts.

Instead, thanks to some untimely poor weather on game days, Callaway’s teams have completed just one Region 5-AAA game between them.

The only region game either team finished came on Feb. 23 when the Callaway Lady Cavaliers beat Haralson County 10-0 in a game that wrapped up early because of the mercy rule.

As soon as that game finished, the skies opened and it started raining heavily, and the boys’ game never even started.

That has been an all too familiar pattern that reared its head once again on Thursday.

Callaway was supposed to host region foe Pepperell, but those games were postponed because of rain.

Callaway was at Rockmart on Tuesday, and the girls’ game was tied 4-4 in the second half when play was suspended, and the boys’ game wasn’t played.

Callaway’s teams also had their region games at Central-Carroll on Feb. 25 postponed because of rain.

“We’ve been able to practice,” Callaway boys’ coach Jake Hembree said. “Practice days have been beautiful. It’s just when it comes to game days, that’s when there’s water every where.”

Assuming the weather cooperates, Callaway is set to host region foe Cedartown on Tuesday, and the postponed games will be made up at some point.

The weather also impacted the Troup soccer teams on Thursday.

Troup was scheduled to open Region 5-AAAA play at Woodward Academy, but those games were postponed.

Next up for Troup will be Tuesday’s showdown against LaGrange at the Troup County Soccer Complex.

Also on Thursday, the Callaway baseball team was supposed to visit Manchester, but that game was postponed.

Callaway will be at home on Tuesday against Troup.

If the weather cooperates today, the baseball teams from LaGrange and Troup, along with the LaGrange soccer teams, will have home games.

LaGrange (3-3) will look to end a two-game losing streak when it hosts Sandy Creek, and Troup (3-1), after losing its first game on Wednesday against East Coweta, will play Northside.

On the soccer field, LaGrange’s teams are scheduled to host Smith’s Station.
