A convicted felon found himself in handcuffs after taking a short nap at the light at the intersection of Broad and North Greenwood streets Tuesday about 12:30 a.m.

LaGrange police said someone reported a white Dodge Durango sitting through several light changes without moving through the intersection.

When an officer arrived, he found the driver asleep behind the wheel.

According to the officer, the driver smelled strongly of alcohol. When the officer asked the man to step out of the truck, police noticed a .38 caliber revolver laying in the passenger seat and discovered he was a convicted felon.

The driver, identified as Ronald Bakari Bell, 21, whose address was unavailable, refused to take a Breathalyzer test, the police report states. He was arrested and taken to the Troup County Jail.

Officers said they found a small bag of suspected marijuana in his sock as he was being booked into the jail.

Bell was charged with several misdemeanors traffic offenses, DUI and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Burglary

A woman reported someone broke into her home in the 1800 block of Murphy Avenue about noon Monday and stole a food stamp card and a prepaid debit card.

The woman told LaGrange police she noticed two of her purses had been moved out of her closet and the blinds on one of her windows had been moved.

Theft

A woman filed a report after realizing someone stole $200 out of her back pocket while she waited in line to check out at the Dollar General store at 200 Colquitt St. over the weekend.

The woman told police when she realized the money was missing, she returned to the store to find it.

According to the woman, the store clerk checked security cameras and advised her the man standing behind her line removed the money from her pocket.

The woman told officers she knew the man, messaged him on Facebook and asked for the money back. But she said he stopped responding to her messages and has not returned the cash.

Police are investigating.
