LAGRANGE – They’re ready to roll.

The LaGrange Academy Warriors will open a new baseball season when they host Trinity Christian today, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.

The Warriors are coming off a successful season where they finished second in their region to earn the right to host a GISA state-playoff series where they lost to Monsignor Donovan.

“We’re looking forward to (the opener),” LaGrange Academy head coach Brandon Lybrand said. “We’ve got several goals this season. It’s a lot of the same goals we had last season. We’d like to at least host a (playoff) series, and one of the big goals we’re having this year is winning that series.”

Lybrand said a key focus early in the season will be “developing some pitching.”

Lybrand added that “we’ve got kids that are playing new positions. And we’ve got kids that haven’t played in a year or two. We’re looking forward to the season, and we think we’re going to do pretty well.”

A year ago, LaGrange Academy finished the regular season with a 6-5 record, and it was swept by Monsignor Donovan in the first round of the state playoffs.

Also today, LaGrange Academy’s girls’ soccer team will make its home debut.

The Lady Warriors opened their season with a game at Oak Mountain on Tuesday, and they’ll host Weber School today at 5 p.m.

LaGrange Academy is led by junior Sydney Emerson, who set the school’s single-season scoring record with 55 goals as a freshman.
