COLUMBUS – The LaGrange Grangers were looking to move above .500 in the region with a road win over the Shaw Raiders, but they were unable to make it happen.

Shaw exploded for 10 runs in the first three innings on the way to an 11-8 home victory in the Region 1-AAAAA game on Tuesday.

LaGrange (6-5 overall), which opened its region schedule by splitting a pair of games with Columbus last week, fell to 1-2 in the region.

LaGrange will host Northside on Thursday, and those same two teams will meet again on Friday in Columbus.

LaGrange took a 3-0 lead in Tuesday’s game, but Shaw answered with six runs in the bottom of the first, and it added four more runs in the third inning to build a 10-4 lead.

The Grangers made things interesting by scoring four runs in the top of the sixth to get within three, but that’s as close as they came.

Jake Farrar led LaGrange’s offensive effort with two hits, including a home run, and he drove in three runs.

LaGrange finished with 10 hits.

TENNIS: In a Region 1-AAAAA showdown, it was the Columbus High’ boys team outlasting LaGrange 3-2 on Tuesday.

LaGrange won two of the three singles matches, but it was Columbus capturing the two doubles wins to earn the narrow victory.

On the girls’ side, Columbus won 5-0.
