LaGrange Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a white Nissan Altima that allegedly ran through a safety checkpoint at the intersection of Union and Baugh Streets on Sunday about 1:15 a.m.

Officers stated the driver “blew through the traffic safety checkpoint,” at a high rate of speed.

An LPD officer said he followed the vehicle in his patrol car with lights and sirens in an attempt to catch up with the driver.

According to the police report, the driver of the Altima sped away, ran several stop signs, cut its headlights off and almost ran another car off the road on Fourth Avenue.

LPD then lost sight of the car.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call LaGrange Police at 706-883-2603 or Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.

Car and business damaged

A man returned to his business, Allstate Heating and Air, 111 Wallace St., on Saturday morning about 8:20 to find someone had used his truck to damage part of his building and his vehicle.

The owner told LaGrange Police when he left the office on Friday at 6 p.m., his 2000 Dodge Dakota truck was parked inside the fence at the business. When he returned Saturday, the gate was open and the truck was damaged.

LPD officers said it appeared someone used the truck to ram the gate and open it.

According to the owner, the truck was valued at $6,000. The damage to the fence was estimated at $2,500.

Police are investigating.

According to police, the man registered a blood alcohol level of 0.132.

He was handcuffed and charged with DUI less safe and cited for speeding.
