LaGRANGE — A 17-year-old male was recovering Tuesday morning at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta after being shot in the abdomen the night before, according to LaGrange police.

Lt. Dale Strickland, head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, said the teen was walking on Patterson Street near Smoot Street about 9:30 p.m. Monday when someone robbed him at gunpoint and then shot him.

Strickland said the teen managed to walk almost three blocks to the Daniel Street Food Mart at 512 Daniel St., where he asked an employee to call for help.

The victim told investigators he got into a physical altercation with the robber when the gunman allegedly shot him. The robber took the teen’s wallet and cellphone, Strickland said. But the victim was not able to provide investigators with a description of the shooter.

The teen was flown to Grady for treatment.

Strickland said investigators hope to talk to the 17 year old again Tuesday afternoon.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the LaGrange Police Department at 706-883-2603 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
