A driver called 911 Tuesday after hitting a child who reportedly walked out in front of his car about 7:30 a.m. in the 100 block Youngs Mill Road.

The driver told LaGrange police he swerved to miss the little girl, but heard a bump so he knew the vehicle touched her.

The man said the girl went into a nearby daycare center as soon as it happened.

LPD officers went into the day care and found the child, who told police she never saw the car and looked both ways before crossing the street.

According to officers, the girl complained of some pain in her left arm, but paramedics did not find any injuries.

Police also called the child’s mom to inform her of the accident.

DUI

A woman involved in a single-car collision Tuesday about 8:18 p.m. on Upper Big Springs Road near East Greenwich Circle was arrested after LaGrange police believe she was driving while intoxicated.

Police said the woman openly admitted she was driving on a suspended license after she entered a curve too fast, lost control of her Mitsubishi Gallant and smashed into a tree.

Officers on the scene said they also smelled alcohol on her breath.

According to the report, the woman took a portable breath test that showed her blood alcohol content as 0.31. The legal limit in Georgia is 0.08.

She was arrested, but because her BAC was so high, the driver was first taken to West Georgia Medical Center for treatment.

She was later released into the custody of police officers and transported to the Troup County Jail.

The woman was charged with DUI, driving on a suspended license and failure to maintain lane.
