LaGRANGE — City Council has approved changes to parking regulations surrounding the Sweetland Amphitheatre in an effort to keep residential neighborhoods from being inundated with visitors during concert events.

A substitute ordinance passed Tuesday bars non-permitted vehicles from parking on:

• Ridley Avenue between Smith Street and Mitchell Avenue;

• West Bacon Street between New Franklin Road and Marshall Street; and

• Highland Avenue between Ridley Avenue and North Greenwood Street.

Residents who live on these streets can obtain parking permits at City Hall, 200 Ridley Ave., at no charge, according to Alton West, the city’s community development director. The hang-tag permits will be valid for one year. Commercial businesses may also obtain parking permits.

For single-family houses or commercial locations, one permit will be issued for each street address. For multi-family units, such as apartments, one permit will be issued for each dwelling.

Additional permits may be issued on an as-needed basis with the approval of the LaGrange Police Department.

A second ordinance that would create tow-away zones in the three locations where permits will be used — along with other locations — was tabled by City Council for further review and consultation with LPD.
