A man trying to elude LaGrange police officers during a foot chase just after 1 a.m. Saturday on Johnson Street did not make it very far and ended up behind bars.

Desmond Latrell Peterson, 41, had an active warrant for a felony probation violation, according to a police report.

After an officer spotted him, Peterson allegedly took off and attempted to hide behind a house in the 300 block of Johnson Street.

Another officer spotted him and tried to take him into custody using verbal commands, but Peterson refused to comply with police, the report states.

The officer used a “reasonable amount of force” to take Peterson into custody, according to the report.

Officers said they searched Peterson and found a white plastic bag containing suspected crack cocaine, plus two pieces of a clear glass pipe containing residue.

Peterson was charged with obstruction and possession of cocaine.

Drug bust

A man was arrested about 8:15 p.m. Friday after he was spotted leaving an area police said is known for drug sales.

LaGrange Police Department Special Investigation Unit investigators caught up with the man as he was driving his truck down Union Court.

While officers were speaking with the driver, they said they could smell marijuana from inside the vehicle.

Investigators asked him if they could search him and he consented. The driver then spontaneously told them he had marijuana, investigators said.

SIU officers said they found a small bag of marijuana in the man’s left pocket and 15 grams of marijuana in a separate bag inside his pants leg. They also discovered three blue pills believed to be Xanax inside the truck along with the remnants of a burned marijuana blunt.

The driver was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.

Entering auto

A man told LaGrange police someone stole a gun out of his truck that was parked in the driveway of his home in the 100 block of Morgan Drive.

He told officers he was out of town for several days but believed the weapon was stolen from the center console of the truck some time during the day of March 29.

The man described his gun as a Smith & Wesson 9mm that is half black and carbon fiber. The weapon was valued at $350.
