Two men in two separate incidents told LaGrange police they accidentally shot themselves while holding a gun over the weekend.

The first incident occurred Friday about 10 p.m. The man told officers he was a passenger in a vehicle traveling through the Laurel Ridge subdivision.

The victim said he pulled the firearm out of his pocket and accidentally discharged the weapon just as the car hit a speed bump.

According to the report, the man shot himself in the lower part of his right leg. He was transported to Grady hospital in Atlanta for further treatment.

The man told police he threw the gun out of the window of the car after it went off. Officers did not locate the weapon.

Police also responded to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center just after 3 a.m. Sunday after a man showed up with a gunshot to his right hand.

According to the victim, he and a friend were “playing around” with a gun. The man told officers when he attempted to grab the weapon out of his friend’s hand the gun went off, striking him in the hand.

When police asked the victim where the incident occurred, the man said he did not know and did not want to provide any more information.

Criminal damage to property

A construction worker helping build a new medical facility at 1075 Lafayette Parkway told LaGrange police about 7 a.m. Monday he noticed the back window to a Bobcat skid steer was shattered, an estimated $750 in damage. According to the worker, all the equipment was in working order when he left the site Friday morning.
