A LaGrange woman was recovering Wednesday morning after she told LaGrange police detectives her boyfriend allegedly assaulted her inside their apartment in the 800 block of Borton Street.

According to LaGrange police, the victim showed up to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center about 6 p.m. Tuesday. Detectives said she sustained a fractured jaw and nose during the attack.

Al Jerome Hart Jr., 24, of LaGrange, is allegedly responsible for the assault, which took place in front of two children ages 3 and 5 years old, said police Lt. Dale Strickland.

Hart was still at large this morning. He faces charges of aggravated battery and two counts of cruelty to a child in the third degree.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the LaGrange Police Department at 706-883-2603 or Troup County Crime Stoppers at 706 812-1000.

Business burglarized

LaGrange police responded to the old Dunson Mill at 2 Thornton St. just before 9 a.m. Monday after an employee noticed someone cut the chain on one of the security gates to the property and entered the building, which now serves as a warehouse.

The employee told officers it appeared someone went through the first floor of the facility and stole 15 cases of carpet tiles. Each case was valued at $100.

Police are investigating.
