Free concert series underway in West Point

WEST POINT — The Summer Sounds Concerts series is underway with free Friday concerts set at West Point’s new River Park.

The concerts are sponsored by the Greater Valley Juneteenth Committee in partnership with the City of West Point. They are family oriented.

Anyone looking to attend may bring a lawn chair or blanket, umbrella and picnic dinner. In the event of rain, the concert will be canceled. No alcohol is permitted in the park.

Upcoming concerts are at 6:30 p.m., with the next set for Friday with Brittany Avery and GP38, country western music; and June 17 with the James Brown Trio and the Greater Peace Youth Ensemble, gospel music.

Donors for the concerts include Capital City Bank, CharterBank, West Point Development Authority and the J. Smith Lanier Insurance Company.

River Park is next to West Point City Hall on 1st Avenue.
