One man is recovering from several bumps and bruises on his head after a friend allegedly attacked him inside his home in the 400 block of South Page Street about 1:15 a.m. Sunday.

The victim told LaGrange police his friend showed up at his house. The man let him inside and as he turned his back to walk into the kitchen, the suspect suddenly hit him seven or eight times in the head, according to the police report.

The “friend” then went outside and retrieved a bat from his truck, said the victim. The homeowner was able to lock the door and call 911.

The suspect took off in his truck, but was stopped by LaGrange police officers a few blocks away.

The victim had several red marks on his head and two knots forming over his left eye, police said.

The suspect allegedly admitted to LaGrange police officers he hit the man, but only after the homeowner reportedly struck him with a frying pan.

Police were investigating.

DUI

One driver was arrested after police said he ran into a car at the intersection of Brown and Daniel streets about 6 p.m. Sunday, then took off without checking on the other driver.

The victim and witnesses provided LaGrange police with a description of the driver and the license plate. They also claimed the driver was drunk.

Officers tracked the suspect’s vehicle to his home in the 300 block of Cherry Street. When police arrived, they found the car with fresh damage to it, officers stated.

They spoke with the driver and officers said they immediately smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from him and noticed he could barely walk and was stumbling around the house, the report states.

He was arrested and taken to the Troup County Jail. The driver was charged with a citation for failure to maintain lane, driving on a limited DUI permit, DUI less safe and leaving the scene of an accident — all misdemeanors.
