LaGRANGE — No one was injured in a car fire Monday on Interstate 85 near the Whitesville Road exit.

Troup County firefighters extinguished the blaze shortly before 4 p.m. on the right shoulder of the northbound lanes of I-85.

Two adults and two children were inside the vehicle before it caught fire, according to the Troup County Fire Department. All of the vehicle’s occupants declined medical attention at the scene.

A total of six firefighters and an ambulance responded to the scene. One lane of I-85 was closed during the fire, causing about a mile-long back up of traffic.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, but firefighters suspect a mechanical problem. The Troup County Fire Department is investigating.

The owner of the vehicle could not be reached for comment.
