LaGRANGE — The Downtown LaGrange Development Authority and LaGrange College are slated to host the Red, White and Blue Friday concert and movie screening Friday at Sweetland Amphitheatre at Boyd Park, 110 Smith St. in LaGrange.

The Community Orchestra under the direction of conductor Neal Brumbeloe will perform at 7 p.m. and the family-friendly movie “Max” will begin at dusk, according to Barbie Watts, an events organizer for the DLDA.

The event is free and open to the public, and the gates will open at 6:30 p.m.

The public is invited to bring outside food and beverages to the event, and a limited selection of concessions will also be available for purchase.

“Max” is a PG-rated film from 2015 about a dog that helps U.S. Marines in Afghanistan until he is brought back to the United States after a traumatic experience and adopted by his handler’s family.

The film will be screened on the amphitheater’s great lawn and the public is encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to sit on. A limited number of Adirondack chairs will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Round tables will be set up on the floor level of the amphitheater, and prizes will be awarded to the best decorated table. All of the tables have been reserved, Watts said.

The Red, White and Blue Friday is part of the Sunsets and Sweetland ongoing summer series.

The next event will be held Aug. 5 and feature live music and a screening of the film “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The Aug. 5 event also begins at 7 p.m. with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

On Aug. 13, Pure Life Studios, LaGrange College and the DLDA will present the 2016 Battle of the Bands from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Two divisions — 18 and under, and adults 19 and up — are slated to compete in the competition. Contact the DLDA at 706-298-4534 for more information.
