HOGANSVILLE – For the seventh consecutive summer, the Callaway High football program will be hosting a youth camp.

This year’s camp will be on July 12, and the one-day camp will be held from 9 a.m. until noon.

The cost is $10, and the camp is open to boys and girls ages 8 to 14.

As always, the staff will include Callaway High’s coaches, as well as some of the current Cavalier players.

Following last year’s camp, Callaway head coach Pete Wiggins said having the players helping out added a great deal to the camp.

“Obviously it’s a lot of fun for the kids that come to it, but I enjoy seeing our high-school kids working the camp as much as I enjoy seeing our young kids out here,” Wiggins said. “They have a ball with it. I’m real proud of the older kids that come out and help with it. I think it’s a great learning experience for them down the road.”

Wiggins said he and the other coaches also get a lot out of the camp.

“Our coaching staff is getting older, but I feel like on a day like today we’re like a bunch of kids,” Wiggins said. “It’s a lot of fun for the kids participating, but for the coaches, too. We enjoy it.”

Wiggins, who is preparing for his 12th season as the Cavaliers’ head coach, will be the camp director.

In his first 11 seasons, Wiggins has compiled a 91-39 record, and his teams have reached the state playoffs 10 straight seasons.
