WEST POINT — Investigators continue to interview potential witnesses to a shooting that killed one man Tuesday morning at the Oak Terrace Apartments at 700 Avenue E.

People began calling 911 about 10 a.m. telling dispatchers someone had been shot, said West Point Police Capt. Kevin Carter.

Officers and emergency personnel rushed to the scene. It was not immediately clear if the victim died at the apartments or was transported to a nearby hospital where he later passed away.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations was still processing the crime scene as of 3 p.m., said Carter. The GBI typically helps out West Point police with their crime scenes. The police department will still handle the murder investigation, Carter said.

At the time of this report, the name and age of the victim was withheld pending notification of family members.
