MOULTRIE – So far, so good for the Troup County 12-and-under all-star softball team.

Facing the Rome all-stars in the opening round of the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association state tournament on Tuesday in Moultrie, Troup County rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to win 7-5 and move into the winner’s bracket.

Amber Corley was the starting and winning pitcher for Troup County, and offensively coach Pete Thrailkill said the team used “small ball” to get back into the game and put enough runs on the board to get the win.

Troup County got off to a rough start in Tuesday’s game.

Rome was the visiting team, so it came to the plate first, and it put four runs on the board in the top of the first inning to grab the lead.

Troup County dominated the rest of the game, though, to get off to a winning start in the double-elimination tournament.

The Troup County 10-and-under all-star team will begin its state tournament today in Tifton, and the Troup 8-and-under all-star team will play its state opener on Thursday in Effingham County.
