A good Samaritan called 911 after spotting at least one person leaving the Flair store at 900 Hogansville Road about 12:55 a.m. today in what appeared to be an attempted burglary.

LaGrange police officers responded and the witness told them the person fled on foot toward Whiting Street.

Officers determined someone entered the shop by breaking a window and broke into a jewelry display case to steal items, police stated.

Among items stolen was a cellphone, backpack, earphones and $7,200 worth of jewelry, the police report said.

Police were still investigating this morning.

Stolen car

A wreck in the area of Colquitt and McGregor streets about 4:05 a.m. today helped LaGrange police officers locate a stolen vehicle.

When officers arrived at the scene, occupants of both vehicles had fled the area, stated police.

While processing a 2015 Chevy Impala, officers contacted the owner, who believed the vehicle was still parked in her driveway in the 800 block of Daniel Street.

The owner told police she left the car keys and her purse inside the vehicle, and the Impala was left unlocked, a police report states. She said no one was supposed to be driving the car.

The vehicle was towed.

Police were investigating.
