2 receive sorority scholarships

LaGRANGE — Two recent high school graduates have received scholarships from a local sorority.

LaGrange High School graduate Mercedes Cameron and Troup High School graduate Tiana Gates have received scholarships given annually by Theta Xi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. The scholarships are presented to students who are active in their communities, churches, schools and maintain high academic standards during their high school years.

While attending LHS, Cameron participated in extracurricular activities and volunteered in her church and community while maintaining a 3.7 grade point average.

She is the daughter of Debra Dunson Glover and Nathaniel Cameron Jr., and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Cameron Sr. and Mrs. Eddie Glover.

Cameron will attend Savannah State University majoring in mathematics.

Tiana Gates also participated in numerous school-related activities and served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross, West Georgia Medical Center and LaGrange Memorial Library, in addition to active involvement with her church.

Tiana graduated THS with a 4.2 grade point average and will attend Columbus State University with intentions of becoming a nurse or physician’s assistant in the field of ophthalmology.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Gates Jr., and granddaughter of Mrs. Bessie R. Williams and Mrs. Gwinnette Young.
