LaGRANGE — Franklin Road Baptist Church, 1424 New Franklin Road, concludes its summer community programs by offering a Music and Drama Camp starting Monday and running through Friday, July 25 to 29. The sessions are open to any child or teen in grades one through 10, and will be 10 a.m to 4 p.m. each day.

This is the first the church has held the camp and it will be directed by the church’s minister of music, Jacqui Stover.

“I believe the arts are critical to developing well rounded individuals,” Stover said. “I am hoping that with the one week commitment the young people will see how much fun the arts are and will pursue some fine arts courses in school.

“I also see this as an outreach opportunity. I want to minister to kids who have little exposure to the things of God. Music is inherently fun, and God made it for our enjoyment.”

During the camp the students will learn the complete musical “The Star Factor.” There will be singing, dancing, acting and some sign language interpretation. There will also be times where the students will be placed in small grade-related groups for learning the spiritual relations of the songs they are learning. Lunch will also be provided, and there will be recreation.

The end result of this camp will be the presentation of the musical on Aug. 14 at 6 p.m.

“I hope that members of the community will come help us celebrate the hard work these students did during the camp,” Stover said.

There is no cost to participate in the music and drama camp. To register or get more information, call the church at 706-882-3482 or contact Stover at Jacquiruth2@hotmail.com.
