LaGRANGE — An alleged gunman remained in Troup County Jail this morning after he allegedly shot at a man several times behind a home in an undisclosed area of Hamilton Road just after 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The homeowner stepped into his backyard and found a masked man who fired multiple gunshots at him before fleeing on foot, said Troup County Sheriff’s Office investigators.

Deputies set up a perimeter around the neighborhood and quickly captured the suspect, who was later identified as Wesley Reames, 20, of LaGrange, said investigators. When deputies took Reames into custody, they discovered he was armed with a .40-caliber handgun.

The homeowner told investigators he did not know Reames, said Troup County Sheriff James Woodruff.

Reams was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony possession of a firearm during the commission of crime. As of Thursday afternoon, Reames was still awaiting a bond hearing.
