LaGrange police are trying to identify a gunman who shot at a driver at least twice while in his car in the 1400 block of Park Avenue just before 9 p.m. Monday.

The driver of the red Dodge Avenger met with police in the 1100 block of Second Avenue after leaving the area, officers said.

The 17-year-old victim said a fight broke out on Park Avenue and an unknown male fired two gunshots toward his vehicle as he was driving away. Both bullets hit the car, police said.

Police are investigating the incident.

Two arrested for burglarizing bait house

Two people are behind bars in the Troup County Jail after they were caught with stolen merchandise from a LaGrange Police Department bait house in the 100 block of Turner Street.

Richard Smith and Brittany Huff allegedly took two 32-inch TVs from the home, which were equipped with GPS tracking devices, said police officers. The pair also tripped a silent alarm system when they allegedly broke into the home about 5 p.m. Monday.

Police tracked the merchandise to a car sitting in the drive-through of Taco Bell at 314 Commerce Ave., investigators stated. A juvenile was in the driver’s seat. Huff and Smith were both passengers.

Officers said the two TVs were inside the vehicle.

Smith and Huff were arrested and each charged with burglary.

Plane makes emergency landing

A pilot running low on fuel made an emergency landing at the Turkey Run Landfill in the 7000 block of Lone Oak Road in Hogansville about 10:45 a.m. on Friday.

Both Troup County and Meriwether County first responders went to the scene where a 1960s model Cessna airplane hit the hillside of the landfill berm, said officials with the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office.

The plane’s propeller and front end were buried into the berm, stated officials. The Cessna’s landing gear had also been torn off from underneath the aircraft.

The pilot and a passenger were inside the plane when it crashed, said the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office. The pilot sustained a minor injury, and both people were taken to a nearby hospital to be evaluated.

The pilot told officials the couple left Cairo, Georgia, Friday morning and were headed to Chattanooga, Tennessee, for a family gathering. He ran out of fuel midair.

On the ground, he noticed the gas cap missing and believed he did not secure it properly before taking off, officials said.
