LaGRANGE — The Hatton Lovejoy Graduate Studies Fund Committee of Fuller E. Callaway Foundation recently announced the award of scholarship grants totaling $316,550 to 23 graduate school students from this area.

Funds for the graduate scholarships were provided by a bequest in the will of Fuller E. Callaway III, who died in 1971. Scholarship grants under the program vary according to the cost of attendance of the individual applicants and are renewable based on the applicant’s satisfactory academic performance.

The students, graduate schools they will attend and degrees they are seeking are:

Katie Anderson, LaGrange College, master of education in curriculum and instruction.

Zachary Anderson, A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, doctor of osteopathic medicine.

Krista Bowen, Columbus State University, education specialist.

Cason Daniel, Auburn University, doctor of pharmacy.

Parker Davenport, Presbyterian School of Pharmacy, doctor of pharmacy.

Chandler Ferguson, Georgia Institute of Technology, master of business administration.

Karrie Galyon, Columbus State University, master of science in nursing.

Donte Gilbert, University of West Georgia, education specialist.

Rachel Hancock, Dental College of Georgia, doctor of dental medicine.

Nathan Hoxsie, South College School of Pharmacy, doctor of pharmacy.

Brooke Kinney, University of West Georgia, master of science in nursing.

Ana Lambert, University of Phoenix, master of science in nursing.

Amber Lanier, University of Florida, doctor of physical therapy.

The graduate studies scholarship grants were open to any person enrolled or accepted in any accredited post-graduate program of study. First preference is given to children of former employees of Callaway Mills who currently live in and graduated from high school in Troup County.

Second preference was given to those who currently live in and graduated from high school in Troup County. Third preference was given to those who have been employed or lived in Troup County for the last five years or more and can demonstrate a likelihood of employment in Troup County after completion of the graduate degree.

For those students within two years of completing their undergraduate degree or graduate degree, if consecutive, residency within Troup County is based on the residency of their parent or guardian.

In accordance with the terms of Mr. Callaway’s will, the Hatton Lovejoy Graduate Studies Fund was established in memory of the late Hatton Lovejoy, a prominent LaGrange attorney.

At the time of his death in April 1964, Mr. Lovejoy was Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Callaway Foundation Inc., a member of the board of directors of Callaway Mills Company and vice president of the Fuller E. Callaway Foundation.

Fuller E. Callaway III was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fuller E. Callaway Jr. and the father of Mark Clayton Callaway.

The scholarship fund is administered by a committee consisting of Ellen Hudson Harris, Joyce Morgan-Young and H. Speer Burdette III.
