LaGRANGE — City Council on Tuesday approved the acquisition of right-of-way to convert the triangular intersection of Country Club Road and Broad Street to a roundabout.

Four “slivers” of property will be needed to complete the project, said City Manager Meg Kelsey, and several of the property owners have already agreed to the arrangement.

The project, according to renderings, will not significantly change the footprint of the intersection, but will allow for safer traffic flow around the intersection.

At Tuesday’s meeting, Council also approved a financial investment policy for the city’s reserve cash. Scott Stitcher of the investment firm PFM Asset Management, which drafted the policy, said it defines conservative allocation, maturity and credit quality limits that minimize risk and allow for better monitoring of the city’s investments. The city currently has about $40 million in reserve cash that could be invested, according to Kelsey.

In other business, City Council members were presented awards from the Disabled American Veterans nonprofit. Michael Dover, the group’s national chaplain, gave Council the awards, and thanked them for their support of DAV over the years.

“Disabled American Veterans is an organization that’s sole purpose is to help veterans get the services they deserve,” Dover said. “No vet that I know wants a hand out. They want a hand up.”

Council member Norma Tucker, a Navy veteran, thanked Dover for his work with DAV and expressed her gratitude for the award.

DAV is a national organization operating in all 50 states that helps disabled veterans navigate complicated processes for receiving Department of Veterans Affairs disability.
