LaGRANGE — Troup County has been chosen to receive $39,173 in FEMA emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

A local board made up of representatives from United Way of West Georgia, LaGrange Personal Aid, Community Action for Improvement, American Red Cross, Salvation Army, area churches and volunteers will determine how the funds will be distributed among local emergency food and shelter programs.

To receive funds, local organizations must be private, voluntary nonprofits or units of government; have an accounting system; practice nondiscrimination; have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food or shelter programs; and if a private voluntary organization, must have a voluntary board.

In 2015, Troup County distributed emergency food and shelter funds to Community Action for Improvement, LaGrange Personal Aid and the Salvation Army. The agencies provided $13,392 in food assistance, $13,392 in housing assistance and $13,392 in utility assistance.

Public or private voluntary organizations interested in applying for emergency food and shelter program funds must pick up an application between Monday and Aug. 8 at the United Way Office, 200 Main St. on the second floor of Bank of America.
