Child found wandering street at night

A passerby discovered a toddler wandering down Broad Street near Forrest Avenue about 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The driver stopped to assist the little girl and called 911, the report states.

The toddler was only wearing a T-shirt and diaper, and walking in the roadway waving her arms, according to the witness who found her. She told him that “her daddy was gone.”

As LaGrange police officers responded to the scene, a call came into 911 from a man who reported his child was missing, police said.

The toddler’s father told officers the girl was in her bed when he left home to go to the store, according to the police report. The man said he locked all the doors to the house and was only gone 15 minutes. He told officers he believed someone broke into his residence and unlocked the door.

Police checked the home and discovered the front door was unlocked, but there were no signs of forced entry and no items were taken, the report states.

Officers cited the father for parental responsibility.

The toddler was turned over to her mother, who does not live at the home with the father.

Cell phones stolen from store

Three cell phones displayed as demos inside the AT&T store at 380 S. Davis Road were taken from the business between July 28 and Tuesday.

The manager called police about 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday after noticing the phones were missing from the demonstration wall and could not be found in the store’s inventory, according to the report.

The cellphones, two Apple iPhones and a Motorola brand phone, were valued at $1,750.

City truck knocks down power poles

A city of LaGrange bucket truck took down two utility poles and a mailbox Tuesday afternoon in the 300 block of McGregor Street.

No one was injured when the truck, which had been cutting limbs from a tree, drove away and snagged two communication lines and brought two poles to the ground.

The city’s utilities director, Patrick Bowie, said the crew cut a limb from a tree, causing the lines to sag. When the truck drove away, it caught the lines, which pulled two poles down. One fell on the truck, damaging some hand rails and the upper decking, according to a police report.

When the truck pulled one of the lines taut, one pushed over a brick mail box. A bush was also uprooted.

Bowie said Wednesday the city had replanted the bush and fixed the mailbox. No charges were filed.
