Siblings allegedly steal Back the Blue signs

A 19 year old was arrested Wednesday after she and her brother allegedly drove around a neighborhood stealing Back the Blue signs, which are meant to show support for law enforcement.

Residents of the 200 block of East Yorktown Drive reported to police that two people in a truck had taken two signs from a yard. When one resident confronted them, the female passenger said, “Those signs don’t serve a purpose,” according to the police report of the incident, and the pair drove off.

The resident wrote down the truck’s tag number, which officers used to find the owner. The owner said he didn’t know how his truck would’ve been involved in the thefts, but his son then came up to them and admitted he had been in the neighborhood and stolen eight signs with his sister, whom he said had encouraged it.

The father called his daughter home, where she allegedly admitted they had been in the East Yorktown Drive area to visit a relative and decided to start stealing the signs.

“She did not appear to care that she had stolen the signs and stated that she had stolen Back the Blue signs before,” states the police report.

The siblings were cited for criminal damage to property and the sister was arrested and taken to Troup County Jail. The brother showed the officer where they dumped the signs and the officer accompanied him while he returned the signs to their owners and apologized.
