Callaway High’s volleyball team got off to a winning start in area play with road wins over Brooks County and Spencer last week.

Callaway (2-2 overall) opened with a 25-14, 25-15 win over Brooks County before beating Spencer, the host team, 25-11 and 25-17.

Callaway head coach Heather Smith said Cheney Eubanks, Jasemine Drake, Alicia Marks, Bailie Bowles and Kelsey Wessinger all got it done on the defensive end and in the service game.

Also last week, Troup’s volleyball team opened the regular season by splitting a pair of road matches at Upson-Lee.

Troup beat Shaw and fell to Upson-Lee.

Callaway and Troup will both continue their seasons with road games today.

Callaway will be at Brookstone to take on the host team as well as Pacelli, and Troup will visit Columbus High.

LaGrange High’s volleyball team doesn’t play its first game until Aug. 23 at Hardaway.

SOFTBALL: The Callaway Lady Cavaliers traveled to Bowdon and lost 8-1 on Monday.

After opening the season with three straight wins, Callaway has lost three in a row.

“We’re making too many errors right now,” Callaway coach Ashley Summerlin said. “It’s uncharacteristic of this team.”

The Lady Cavaliers don’t play again until Friday when they will be on the field twice as the Callaway Classic gets started at Shuford Fields.

“We don’t have a game until Friday, so we’ll get after it hard for two days, and review and get it going,” Summerlin said.

The softball teams from LaGrange and Troup will both continue their region schedules today.

LaGrange will visit Cedartown, and Troup will be at home against Sandy Creek.

LaGrange and Troup are both 0-1 in the region after losing to Central-Carroll and Chapel Hill, respectively, last week.
