WEST POINT — Kayakers are expected to gather in West Point on Saturday for a benefit on the Chattahoochee River.

The Kayak Parade for Kim with Poker Run is set to launch mid-day with on-site registration from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Downtown River Park in West Point, next to City Hall on U.S. Highway 29.

The event will benefit breast cancer patient Kim Murphy for her treatment. Entrants are asked to decorate their kayaks and wear pink in her honor.

Shuttles will run participants from the Downtown River Park to the launch site at Hardley Creek Park next to West Point Dam.

The cost to participate in the kayak parade is $20 per boat entered. Entrants provide their own boats, but a limited number will be available to rent for a total $50 — which includes the event registration fee — from Great Lakes and Land Co.

The poker run is $10 for those who choose to participate, and prizes will be awarded for best, second best and worst hands.

Pre-registration for the events is available at Great Lakes and Land Co., 3017 West Point Road in LaGrange, or by calling 706-594-1478.
