LAGRANGE – After a hard-fought loss to Colonial Hills on Tuesday, Lafayette Christian School’s volleyball team got back on the winning track with a comfortable home victory over Harvester on Thursday.

Lafayette Christian rolled to a 25-4, 25-5 and 25-9 win over an overmatched Harvester squad.

“We’d get back there and serve, and they were having a hard time mounting an offense,” Lafayette Christian coach Rene Gomez said. “We knew coming in this would be a game we should put under our belt. We figured it was a game we could handle, and we did.”

Colonial Hills is one of the top teams in the region, and it had its hands full with Lafayette Christian earlier in the week.

In the first meeting between those two teams, Lafayette Christian lost 3-1 on the road.

Tuesday’s match was played at Lafayette Christian, and it was a tight one, with Harvester needing the full five sets to walk away with the win.

Lafayette Christian won the first set 25-15, and Harvester bounced back to win the second set 25-11.

Lafayette Christian took the lead by winning the third set 25-22, but Harvester Christian won the final two sets 25-21 and 15-8.

In the fourth set, Lafayette Christian had a 17-12 lead, but it was outscored 13-4 over the remainder of the set.

Still, Gomez was encouraged by the way his team played against an elite opponent.

“The girls played the best we’ve played all year,” Gomez said. “I think we’re peaking at the right time.”

Christine Vedrenne had 12 aces for Lafayette Christian, Kaitlin Tucker had seven kills, and Abbey Hudson and Emily Stringham each had six kills.

Jenna Bowman was in double digits in digs for the fifth straight game, and she has 121 digs for the season.

COLLEGE SOCCER: LaGrange College’s women’s soccer team dropped a 2-0 road game to Huntingdon on Wednesday.

The Panthers (1-5-2 overall) are now 0-2-1 in the USA South.

LaGrange College goal keeper Jesse Grogan had four saves.

LaGrange College’s men’s and women’s teams will be in action the next two days.

It’ll be a doubleheader today, with the LaGrange College and Maryville men’s teams playing at 4 p.m., with the women’s game to follow at 6:30 p.m.

On Saturday, LaGrange College’s women’s team will host Covenant at 6:30 p.m., while the LaGrange College men’s team will visit Pensacola Christian at 7 p.m.
