Man leads police on high speed pursuit

A man tried to elude LaGrange police officers in his car about 10 a.m. on Wednesday starting in the Pal Express convenience store at 415 South Greenwood St.

Officers spotted the man entering the business and knew he had multiple warrants out for his arrest, according to the police report.

Two LPD officers approached the man, identified as Shamiya Marquez Cameron, 29, on foot. He spotted them, jumped into the driver’s seat of a gold Chevrolet Trailblazer and took off driving north on South Greenwood Street, the report stated.

Officers said Cameron was traveling at a high rate of speed, ran a red light at North Greenwood and Broad streets and improperly passed other vehicles in his path.

The man allegedly hit an occupied 2014 Nissan Altima while running a red light at the intersection of Northrth Greenwood and Haralson Streets, LPD said.

Cameron continued to travel in excess of 80 miles per hour, in the wrong lane, towards oncoming traffic, and reportedly struck a green, Chevy Tahoe, officers stated.

The man then turned right onto Mooty Bridge Road, pulled into the parking lot of the Stockyard butcher shop, jumped out of his car and fled from officers on foot.

Cameron was later discovered by LaGrange Police officers hiding in the restroom of the Greenwood Food Mart at 820 North Greenwood Street and arrested, the report said.

There was a passenger in the car who stayed in the vehicle when it stopped at the Stockyard, police said. The man told officers he asked Cameron to stop repeatedly and at one point the car was traveling 100 miles per hour down North Greenwood Street.

Cameron was charged with felony fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident, driving while license is suspended, obstruction of an officer and failure to obey traffic control devices.

Criminal trespass

A woman called 911 on Thursday about 5:10 a.m. after she woke up inside her home in the 100 block of Lafayette Court and discovered a stranger inside her bedroom.

LaGrange police were already in route to the area after someone called about a suspicious person looking inside cars through the vehicle’s windows, the report stated.

A few minutes later, the homeowner called 911 to report a man broke into her house. The woman told officers the male was only wearing pants and a black do-rag and was standing next to her bed. He then fled from the home and was last seen running towards Youngs Mill Road, according to the police report.

Police are investigating.

Man accidentally shoots self

Investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man who was shot in the abdomen on Sunday at a residence on Old School Road.

Patrol deputies located the victim, James Forrest McMillan, 23, of Franklin, suffering from a single gunshot wound, officials stated. McMillan was airlifted to a hospital in Columbus for treatment.

Investigators later determined McMillan is a convicted felon and had accidentally shot himself with a handgun, according to TCSO officials. Deputies also discovered illegal narcotics near the scene of the shooting.

McMillan was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a schedule four controlled substance and violation of superior court probation.

He is now in the Troup County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

Man shot with pellet gun

LaGrange Police responded to Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center about 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday to speak with a victim who claimed he was shot twice with a pellet gun.

The man said an unknown juvenile shot him earlier in the day while he was at the Tall Pines apartment complex at 150 Turner St.

The victim had minor injuries from where the pellets hit his skin, police stated. The man was treated and released from the hospital.

Police are investigating.

Burglary

Two people were arrested on Wednesday about 5 p.m. after they allegedly broke into a home in the 500 block of Lewis Street.

The homeowners called 911 when they returned home and discovered several items missing, according to the police report.

One of the suspects also cut themselves and left a trail of blood through the back yard.

LaGrange police deployed one of their K9 units and found one of the stolen items behind a home on Peachtree Street, officials said.

One of the suspects, identified as Aramis Simpson, 36, of LaGrange, was found sitting on a neighbor’s porch with a wound on his leg, police stated.

He was taken to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center, treated and released.

Simpson was arrested and taken to the Troup County Jail.

LPD investigators learned a second person, identified as Chiquita Alford, 25, of LaGrange was also allegedly involved in the incident.

Alford was arrested.

She and Simpson are each being charged with one count of burglary.
