A girl playing outdoors about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Tall Pines apartment complex at 150 Turner St. told her parents she was shot in the leg with a BB gun.

As the girl ran inside her home, another shot was fired at the sliding glass door of their apartment, according to the police report. The impact shattered the glass.

The victim told her mom she did not see who shot her.

The girl’s injuries were minor and did not require medical attention, the report stated.

The damage to the glass door was estimated at about $350.

This was the second day in a row someone reported being shot by a BB gun inside the Tall Pines apartment complex.

LaGrange police spoke with a victim at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center on Wednesday.

The man told officers he was shot twice by an unknown juvenile.

The victim in that case also had minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital.

Police are investigating.

Elderly woman found deceased

A caretaker found the body of an elderly woman on the back porch of her home on Grayson Trail just before 6 p.m. on Thursday, stated Troup County Sheriff James Woodruff.

It appeared the woman had been deceased for several days, according to Woodruff.

Her body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Atlanta for an official autopsy, Woodruff said, but investigators believe the elderly woman may have died from natural causes.

Man allegedly threatens to shoot construction worker

A man working at a construction site next to Country’s Barbecue at 124 Vernon St. told LaGrange police he was verbally assaulted in the parking lot by a customer just before 3 p.m. on Thursday.

The customer also allegedly threatened to shoot the construction worker, according to the police report.

The victim told officers the man began yelling at him about how “he hated construction workers and how they ruin everybody’s lives.” The man then followed the worker into the parking lot and continued to berate him by calling him derogatory names, the report stated.

The victim said at one point the man told him “he was going to be staring down the barrel of his gun,” and allegedly pointed to a center console inside his car.

As the man left the parking lot, he accelerated and reportedly almost hit the victim and a second construction worker, according to the police report.

The man’s rant and actions were also corroborated by witnesses standing near by, the report said.

One witness told officers the disgruntled customer actually asked her if he should shoot the construction worker and stated he was “ready to shoot somebody.”

LPD officers spoke with the suspect, who stated there were some cars blocking the entrance to the parking lot and he asked them to move, the police report stated.

The man denied threatening anyone and said he was joking about shooting someone, according to the report.

The victim declined to prosecute.

Man allegedly punches holes in walls

A man in a verbal argument with his girlfriend reportedly got so upset he punched holes in several walls within their home at the Whispering Pines apartment complex at 1515 Hogansville Road on Thursday.

The victim told officers the argument escalated when she threatened to call the police. The man then allegedly threw a children’s set of table and chairs against the wall, the report stated. He then left the residence.

Four children were also inside the apartment during the incident, according to the report. No one was hurt.

Police are investigating.

Convicted felon found with stolen handgun

A man who asked a LaGrange police officer for directions in the parking lot of the Emory Clark Holder Clinic at 303 Smith St. about 2 a.m. on Thursday suddenly found himself in handcuffs.

The officer became suspicious when the suspect, identified as Demario Deanute Phillips, 24, could not remember how to get home and lied about where he was coming from, the police report stated.

Phillips then asked the officer for a ride home. When the officer asked if he had any weapons on him, Phillips admitted there was a gun in his pocket.

Police discovered Phillips was convicted of burglary and was recently released from prison, the report stated.

When officers ran the serial number of the weapon, they learned the gun was reported stolen during an entering auto incident on Wednesday, according to the report.

Phillips told officers he received the gun from a friend.

The 24-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft by receiving stolen property.
