LAGRANGE – The journey continues.

After picking up a win in the opening round of the state volleyball tournament, the Troup Lady Tigers will go back on the road on Thursday for a second-round test.

Troup had little trouble with Burke County in the first round last week, rolling to the win in three straight sets.

Now, Troup will visit Ridgeland on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with a berth in the elite eight of the Class AAAA state tournament on the line.

Ridgeland, which is the number one seed from Area 6-AAAA, beat Carver-Columbus 3-0 in the first round last week.

Troup earned its state invitation by finishing third in Area 5-AAAA, and it dismantled Area 3-AAAA runner-up Burke County to get the first state win in the history of the program.

The winner of the Troup and Ridgeland match would play either North Oconee or Blessed Trinity in the quarterfinals.

Also this week, the Callaway High volleyball team will play its state opener.

Callaway, the third-place team from Area 5-AA, will visit Area 4-AA runner-up Washington-Atlanta on Tuesday, with the match set to begin at 6 p.m.

If Callaway wins, it would play either Armuchee or St. Vincent’s in the second round, and the winner of that match would advance to the final four.
