LaGRANGE — The Daily News’ weekly Neighbors series features one person from LaGrange and the surrounding area. This week, we are learning more about local television host Wanda Walker.

LaGrange Daily News: How long have you lived here?

Wanda Walker: “I’ve been here all my life. I went to Troup High School and graduated from LaGrange College. I retired from District 4 Health Services in 2003 after 32 years of services. I started as a secretary, went to school at night and got my degree. I became the WIC coordinator … and after 14 years I became the administrator of the District 4 Public Services.”

LDN: Tell me about your family.

Walker: “I have two daughters: Sarah Abbott who lives in LaGrange and works for Cpak Technology Solutions.and Kristin LePour who also works remotely for Cpak Solutions in Florida. She (Kristin) is expecting my first grand baby in Feb. It will be a boy and his name will be Max Walker Lepour.”

LDN: What do you like best about LaGrange?

Walker: “I like that in LaGrange I know people. When I go to Walmart or out to eat I always see people I know … I have always loved LaGrange and there’s no where else I’d rather live. I think the people of LaGrange are very special and I think there will be things that are happening here that will influence the nation and other countries.”

LDN: What organizations are you a member of?

Walker: “I formed Troup Transformation in 2007. We provide a christian influence and support to local governments, businesses, education, families, arts and entertainment, media and the church. We are also members of Feeding the Valley food bank. We provide food to 25 families a week. Most of those families are at the Stay Lodge Inn and are food insecure.

“I formed Troup Transformation based on the prophecy given in 2002 by Dutch Sheets, a Texas pastor and renowned author. He told us at Callaway Auditorium that God was going to do a work here and when he finished he would draw people here from the north, south, east and west. They would come because of what they saw happening here. We are a forerunner for that heals the wounds of the society and that which heals racism. He said he was going to give revelations to those who don’t even know it was coming from him, but may just think it was just a good idea. So now I listen to the good ideas that people have and when I realize they’re from God, I act on them.”

LDN: What other organizations do you work with?

Walker: “The LaGrange – Troup County Homeless Coalition, which is helping put together a new warming center for the homeless population. New Ventures is renovating part of their new location to serve as the warming center. It should be finished by end of October.

I work with Kendall Butler in the Kingdom Community. We’ve sponsored the 9/11 prayer events on the square and the 48 hours of scripture reading. We also held the Kingdom Community breakfast with faith leaders.

I serve as diplomat for Chamber of Commerce, which allows me an opportunity to visit all the businesses in the area. I like to visit the businesses in Hogansville and West Point and connect with everyone in our community.

I also take part in the Darkness to Light and Safe Families programs with Twin Cedars Youth and Family Services and LaGrange Police Chief Louis Dekmar’s Community Outreach Committee. The committee is an effort for the faith community to have a greater impact within their community.

I have hosted the show ‘You Make The Difference’ since 2012. I invite Christian leaders in the community to share their vision so that other people in the community can be aware and participate in that vision. The show is on WJCN, Charter channel 22. It runs on Tuesday at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., plus on Sunday at 4 p.m.”

LDN: Is there anything else you would like to add?

Walker: “I like the idea that God has LaGrange on his mind. I feel he is working here and developing us so that LaGrange will show forth the glory of God.”
