LaGRANGE – As soon as it came down, a new development started going up.

Downtown on LaFayette Square, construction crews are pouring a foundation for progress in the latest part of the downtown hotel project.

On Friday, workers began to pour the first part of the foundation for the Courtyard by Marriott that is expected to open at the end of 2017. The hotel is being built on the site of the old Mansour’s building, which was demolished.

“They are pouring the footings at the hotel site now,” said LaGrange City Manager Meg Kelsey. “They are starting at the hotel first, so that is what you are really seeing right now.”

Kelsey confirmed that the hotel’s construction is on schedule, and the building should start to take shape in the coming months. She said the hotel will be built before the parking deck construction.
