LaGrange, Callaway compete at state cross-country meet

CARROLLTON – LaGrange High’s girls’ cross-country team, with senior Alaina Tomlinson leading the way, raced to a 20th-place finish in the state meet on Saturday.

In her final cross-country competition as a high-school runner, Tomlinson had a time of 22 minutes, 19 seconds, and she finished in 53rd place.

Anna Brovoll, who will be LaGrange’s top returning runner next season with Tomlinson set to graduate, was 77th with a time of 23:01.

LaGrange’s other five runners were Brianna Stansbury (24:32), Anna Doerr (24:46), Audrey Tomlinson (27:03), Mary Beth Callaway (27:11) and Amanda Thompson (32:23).

On Friday, Callaway Highs’ boys’ cross-country team hit the course in Carrollton, and it came through with a 19th-place finish.

Calik Kemp was Callaway’s top runner, and he placed sixth with a time of 20:23.

Next for Callaway was senior Jason Freiberg (20:26), who was 64th.

Ian Dougherty (21:35), Hayden Taylor (22:20), Dylan Mowery (23:39), Matthew Freeman (23:18) and Sean Freiberg (25:55) rounded out the lineup for Callaway.

While Jason Freiberg and Sean Freiberg are seniors, the other five Callaway runners will all return next season.
