HOGANSVILLE – The Callaway Cavaliers finished the regular season ranked third in Class AA, and that’s where they’ll remain until the final Associated Press poll is revealed following the state-championship games.

Callaway has been ranked fourth for about a month, but it moved up a spot after the previous third-ranked team, Jefferson County, dropped its regular-season finale to fifth-ranked Screven County.

Benedictine remains first in Class AA, and it secured 15 of the 16 first-place votes.

The other first-place vote went to Fitzgerald, which is ranked second, and Callaway, Rabun County and Screven County round out the top five.

Callaway could be looking at a matchup with Screven County if it reaches the quarterfinals.

Completing the top 10 in Class AA are Pepperell, Vidalia, Jefferson County, Dublin and Washington County.

In Class AAAA, Troup dropped out of the top 10 after falling to top-ranked Cartersville in the regular-season finale.

Troup had moved up to eighth last week, and that is the highest it was ranked all season.

Mill Creek is the top-ranked team in Class AAAAAAA, and Dalton is just ahead of Valdosta in Class AAAAAA.
