Storage building damaged in fire

A storage shed behind a home in the first block of Sinclair Road caught fire after 4 a.m. on Tuesday, according to firefighters with the Troup County Fire Department.

The building was more like a garage that held various types of equipment, stated TCFD Chief Deputy Kevin Norred.

Firefighters quickly arrived on scene and doused the flames, although heat from the blaze affected a nearby propane tank, Norred said.

It was unclear if the tank exploded.

No one was hurt in the fire, Norred said.

The cause of the blaze is still undetermined.

Husband wanted for allegedly abusing wife

A woman reported her husband forced his way into her home and damaged the interior of the residence in the 1300 block of Hogansville Road just after 10 p.m. on Monday.

The woman told LaGrange Police she and her husband are currently separated, the report stated.

Once the husband gained entry into the house, he allegedly broke the woman’s cell phone, a mirror and T.V., according to the report.

The victim claimed the man then tried to drag her outside by her hair and physically threw her on a couch before leaving the scene, the police report read.

Officers observed the woman had a torn t-shirt, abrasions on both knees and her lip plus bruises on one of her arms.

The estimated value of the items broken was $225.

LaGrange Police attempted to locate the woman’s husband, but were unsuccessful.

Officers obtained arrest warrants for him and charged the man with two counts of criminal trespass and battery under the Family Violence Act and obstructing or hindering a person making emergency telephone calls.

Man allegedly beats girlfriend

A woman claimed her ex-boyfriend beat her several times inside a home in the 200 block of McGregor Street just before midnight on Monday.

She also told LaGrange Police the man stole her cell phone so she could not call 911 for help, according to the report.

The man then left the home on foot.

The victim told officers the two began a verbal argument that turned physical when he allegedly hit her, the report stated.

Police were not able to locate the suspect.

Student allegedly staples classmate’s finger

A student from Ethel Kight Elementary School told LaGrange Police another student purposefully stapled one of his fingers while they were in class around 3 p.m. on Monday.

Officers met the child and his mother at the Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center emergency room and observed a staple submerged through the padding of one finger, the report stated.

The student told police the classmate attempted to grab his hand several times in order to staple his fingers. He succeeded on the fourth attempt, according to the police report.

The child’s mother claimed the other student continuously bullies her son, the report read.

The incident was turned over to school administration for a complete investigation.

Cruelty to animals

An officer with the LaGrange-Troup County Animal Control noticed a boxer mix dog illegally tethered to the porch of a home in the 1400 block of Juniper Street.

The officer also observed the dog did not have any food, water or shelter, a report stated.

No one was home at the time, so the officer transported the dog to the animal control shelter where it was given food and water, according to the report.
