LaGRANGE – While major national elections have overshadowed state house and senate elections in the weeks surrounding Election Day, the men who will help guide our state are still excited the support that they have received in this election year.

Democratic candidate Bob Trammell, D-Luthersville, beat out Gene King, R-Gay, to become the 132nd district state representative in Georgia.  Trammell won with 9,696 to King’s 8,362.  In Troup County, Trammell won 2,774 votes, and King won 1,833.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve the people of the 132nd district,” said Trammell.  “… I am thankful to the voters for their trust and confidence, and I will continue to work on their issues in congress.”

Joshua McKoon, R-Columbus, won the 29th district state senate seat against Ben Anderson, D-Grantville, with 47,155 votes to Anderson’s 26,156.  In that race, McKoon won 4,114 votes in Troup County, and Anderson won 3,454 votes.

“I’m just very humbled and honored to be able to serve the citizens of the 29th district,” said McKoon, who will be serving his fourth term in the state senate.

McKoon advocates lower taxes, local control of local schools, and water security for the Chattahoochee Valley Region among other issues at a state level.

“We congratulate Senator McKoon on his victory,” said a representative from Anderson’s campaign.

King could not be reached for comment.
