ROOPVILLE – It’s the end of the road for the Lafayette Christian School Cougars.

Lafayette Christian headed to Holy Ground Baptist Academy on Friday night hoping to get a win and advance to the state-championship game for the second straight year.

It wasn’t meant to be, though.

Holy Ground captured a 50-18 victory, and it will have a chance to complete an unbeaten season on Friday when it faces Colonial Hills Christian School in the Georgia Indepedent Christian Athletic Association eight-man title game.

The championship game will be played at Lafayette Christian School’s new stadium, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.

Colonial Hills beat Peachtree Academy in the semifinals last week to earn its title shot.

Lafayette Christian, which won the GICAA state title a year ago, reached the semifinals with a road win over Harvester Christian on Nov. 4.

It was the final game for a group of seniors who have been a part of a lot of special moments over the years.

The Cougars have made it at least as far as the semifinals for four straight years, and they broke through for the championship a year ago.

One of the players who will be coming back next year, sophomore quarterback Landon Whitley, had touchdown runs of six and 50 yards against Holy Ground.

Aother underclassmen, Mitch Crandall, had a 53-yard scoring run for the Cougars.

Lafayette Christian was unable to overcome the loss of three key players to injuries in the first quarter.

Jacob Lueken, Nick Spitler and Avery Staples all left the game and were unable to return.
