Man makes threats, puts together gun in cab

A cab driver called E-911 on Thursday just before 8:30 p.m. after a passenger allegedly put together a shotgun in the backseat of his car.

The driver told LaGrange police the man stated a lot of people owed him money and he was going to get it, the report stated.

The cab driver then “heard the sound of metal and wood hitting together and … observed his passenger putting together a shotgun,” according to the report.

The alleged gunman got out of the cab somewhere near the 600 block of Murphy Avenue, the report said.

The passenger also left behind a back pack in the taxi cab.

Police are investigating.

Burglaries

• A homeowner discovered someone broke into his house in the 300 block of Alford Street just after 1:30 a.m. on Friday.

The victim told police the suspect(s) stole two 42-inch flat screen television, a cable box, a Play Station 4, and three PS4 games, according to the report.

The total value of the items stolen was $1,292.

• Some good Samaritans spotted someone breaking into an apartment in the first block of North Cary Street about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday and called 911.

LaGrange police noticed the suspect(s) gained entry into the apartment through a back window, the report stated.

The homeowner reported a gold mens Bulova watch was missing from the residence.

Shoplifting

• LaGrange Police stopped an alleged shoplifter as he attempted to make a getaway from the Walmart at 803 New Franklin Road just after midnight on Wednesday.

The man was inside a Dodge Ram 1500 and reportedly admitted to the officer he knew he was pulled over for shoplifting, the report stated.

LPD officers recovered the stolen merchandise inside the car. The items included: a security camera system, a cross bow, a laser detector, a four pack of T-shirts and a pack of boxer briefs, according to the report.

The total value of the merchandise was more than $909.

The man was also allegedly caught on Walmart surveillance cameras pushing some of the items out of the store and concealing others in his work boots, the report said.

The man was arrested for felony shoplifting and driving on a suspended license.

• A LaGrange Mall employee called E-911 after confronting two females for shoplifting inside the TJ Maxx about 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

The employee told police the two women were spotted cutting the tags and theft detection devices off clothes and placing the items inside a bag, the report read.

When one of the suspects was confronted by employees, she allegedly handed over the merchandise than ran out of the store with the other woman, according to the report.

The items cost more than $409.

Officers were not able to find the suspects.

Man tries to steal sign

One man was arrested when LaGrange police officers noticed him trying to pull up a speed limit sign near the Aldi grocery store on New Franklin Road just after midnight on Thursday.

One officer captured the man on camera as he allegedly tried to pull the sign out of the ground, according to the report.

When the officer approached the man, he smelled a strong odor of alcohol, the report stated.

The man was taken into custody and charged with public drunkenness.
