Alyce O’Neal Higgins Durrence, of LaGrange, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, at Hospice LaGrange. She was 87 years old. A family wake will be held in Atlanta next month. Mrs. Durrence was born Jan. 6, 1929, in Commerce, Georgia. She was raised in Winder and graduated from the nursing program at Georgia Baptist Hospital. She worked as a Charge Nurse at Athens General Hospital (Piedmont Athens Regional), where she met her future husband, Dr. Leonard C. Durrence. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Eddie Benson; and brother, Fred Higgins Jr. Survivors include her daughter, Debby (Dan) Baker of LaGrange; granddaughters, Sarah (Lindsay Johnson) Schanche of LaGrange and Anna Brock of Milledgeville (formerly of LaGrange);  great-grandson, Aidan Brock of Milledgeville.
