COLLEGE PARK – The LaGrange Grangers (8-1) ran their winning streak to five with Monday’s hard-fought 58-57 victory over Forest Park at Woodward Academy.

Forest Park hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to make the final margin of victory one point.

Senior Gabe Duckett had a big game for the Grangers with 19 points, and Daz Williams contributed 11 points and made three 3-pointers.

“As a whole, we didn’t play great,” LaGrange head coach Mark Veal said. “We were flat play  ing in a flat environment.”

Veal was encouraged to see Duckett, who has struggled a bit offensively, come through with a big game.

“He played great,” Veal said. “I was glad to see that.”

In Monday’s girls’ game, it was LaGrange (4-7) beating Decatur 55-49.

Aryan Dozier led the way for LaGrange with 22 points, Chnaireia Strozier scored 12 points, and Shania Woodard added 10 points.

“I thought we did a great job working together the entire game,” LaGrange coach Stephen Tuck said. “That was big the entire game.”

Tuck praised the way his team played in the fourth quarter when it outscored Decatur 22-14.

Woodard scored all 10 of her points in the fourth quarter, and Strozier was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line in the final period.

“We didn’t take any bad shots. We took good shots (in the fourth quarter),” Tuck said. “And we made our free throws.”

LaGrange’s teams will be back at Woodward Academy today.

LaGrange’s girls’ team plays Holy Innocents’ at 2:30 p.m., and the boys’ team plays Centennial at 5:30 p.m.
